LOUIS CANE

1943 - 2024

Louis Cane, born in 1943 in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, is a French painter and sculptor associated with the Supports/Surfaces movement in the 1970s. He explored innovative techniques, notably detaching canvas from its frame to create free-form, experimental works. His work is distinguished by a focus on materiality and color. Later, he turned to sculpture, blending classical and contemporary elements. Cane is celebrated for his bold experimentation in contemporary art.
