AGNÈS DEBIZET

1957 -

Agnès Debizet, born in Marseille in 1957, discovered clay in Paris in the early 1980s, following her studies in literature focused on Flaubert. This encounter marked a turning point in her career. She trained at a Paris City workshop under ceramicist Albert Minot and gradually made sculpture her primary means of expression.

Debizet has since developed a highly personal sculptural language, rooted in the modelling of stoneware and an intuitive approach to the material. Her organic forms, intertwining structures, vertical volumes, and irregular surfaces evoke vegetal and mineral worlds as well as imaginary creatures. Clay seems to transform and evolve freely in her hands.

Her work also maintains a strong relationship with its surroundings. Since the 2000s, she has created installations for gardens, forests, castles, and historic monuments. Her monumental work Évolution, begun in 2009, reflects this approach, with its numerous elements capable of being assembled and transformed according to each space.

From the 2010s onwards, her practice expanded into the decorative arts, with sculptures, tables, consoles, mirrors, and lighting fixtures conceived as unique works. Her celebrated series Entrelacs and Morilles further explore the dialogue between sculpture, design, and material.

Based in Burgundy since 1998 while maintaining strong ties to Paris, Agnès Debizet continues to create an evolving body of work where experimentation, accident, textures, and irregularities become essential to the creative process. Her work lies at the intersection of contemporary sculpture, design, and the decorative arts.
