1887 - 1965

The father of modern architecture, Charles Édouard Jeanneret, better known as Le Corbusier, is considered the representative of the Modern Movement. Le Corbusier introduced new ideas such as purism, the link between architecture and nature and functionalism. He finds inspiration for artistic, architectural and urban elements during his travels by mixing heritage and modernity. Le Corbusier’s architectural work in chandigarh is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the artist is also known as the inventor of the “housing unit” which is the concept of a theoretical reflection on collective housing.
